The winery was founded in 1870 by Abraham Teperberg and his son Zeev Zaid Teperberg. Managed by Moti Teperberg, it is now one of Israel’s leading wineries, producing more than 100 varieties of wine and grape juice. The company sells more than 4 million bottles a year worldwide. Teperberg is one of Israel’s best-known wineries.
A powerful red wine characterised by an aromatic and magical combination of cherries and strawberries and a delicate aroma of tobacco and pine needles. Merlot Essence combines two vineyards that perfectly complement each other. The main vineyard, in the Elah Valley, offers velvety softness, while the other, in the Ephraim Hills, contributes to the wine’s robust structure. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is soaked in the skins for about five days. After the extended maceration, the grapes are slowly pressed under low pressure into a stainless steel tank for malolactic fermentation, which stabilises and softens the wine (this process takes place separately for each vineyard). After malolactic fermentation, the wine begins an 18-month maturation process in new and two-year-old French oak barrels. During the maturation, all barrels are tasted and the final blend is designed to reflect the correct composition of the two vineyards in the final wine. After the maturation process, the wine is bottled and continues to mature for a further 10 months before release.
